Is this what the used EV market looks like?

I think it is going to be a long time before people trust used EVs.

There’s a couple reasons EVs depreciate very quickly:

1. $7500 tax credit gets lopped off and the depression in actual transaction price is passed on

2. The average EV buyer is relatively affluent and therefore more likely to buy new

3. Uncertainty on battery lifetimes (Battery is only warranted for 60,000 miles, regardless of actual performance)

Funny that they are advertising the Leaf as a hybrid.

But, yes, that is basically the used EV market - or what it will look like soon enough. Take a look at teslamotors.com under the pre-owned section. You can get a lightly used Model S for around $50,000 now. There are a few reasons for this:

1) The $7,500 federal credit is built in to the used price.

2) The tech is advancing so rapidly that a car that was cutting edge two years ago is obsolete. In the Leaf’s case the 2016 model is offering significantly more range than older models.

3) For the Leaf specifically, some old models are seeing faster than normal battery degradation

I’m pretty sure the 96 mile range might have something to do with that...

But yes, the used EVs, and also with most hybrids, tank in value worse then most other cars.

I bought an electric scooter for $100 off of craigslist. It retailed new for around $3400. I’ve been very pleased. I may even go for an electric Fiat when they start showing up. I care not for depreciation. I drive them until there is no driving left to be had.

I have a Zapino that I bought a few years ago that I have considered selling. I just have no idea what someone would be willing to pay for it.

At $100 I would rather keep it!

I wouldn’t pay half that for a used Leaf.

You’re not in California are you? I might be interested in getting a second one.

Well, if it makes a difference, mine is pretty banged up and the guy lost the original charger, and just wanted to be rid ofit. if yours is in good shape, you can probably get quite a bit more for it than what I paid. If you just want to be rid of it, let me know. I’d love to have a second one to dink around with.
